In partnership with the Western Massachusetts Section of the Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA), WMAIA hosted their bi-annual Celebration of Architecture and Design Awards Program to encourage and recognize distinguished architectural and landscape design achievement and honor the project team, including the clients and consultants who work together to improve the built environment. The Western Massachusetts AIA/Western Massachusetts BSLA Design Awards Program recognizes and honors excellence of all types of building designed by architects & landscape architects practicing in the Western Massachusetts region. The WMAIA Design Awards program is held every two years to recognize and promote awareness of the fine work produced in Western Massachusetts. The sole criterion of the program is design excellence.

ArchitectureEL applied for this award by submitting an impressive portfolio displaying their design for New Valley Bank located at 1930 Wilbraham Road in Springfield, Massachusetts. They’d like to thank their peers for playing a role in the development of this building and their team at ArchitectureEL, Inc: Jeff Sullivan and Hayes Murray of New Valley Bank, Chris Burger and the team at Inglewood Development Corp., John Olson of Olson Photographic, LLC, Robert W. Hall Consulting Engineers, Johnson Structural Engineering, Inc., and Building Evolution Corporation, Richard Morse, LEED AP BD&C of ArchitectureEL, Inc. Awards were presented during WMAIA’s Annual Meeting where all project entries were recognized. Judging for the award was informed by the AIA Framework for Design Excellence, which contends that design is not solely about aesthetic components, but also concerns how buildings perform for people. Awards were issued at the discretion of the jury and were recognized as follows:

• Honor – bestowed for exceptional work, easily distinguishable by exceptional quality of design and function. Two projects recognized.
• Merit – bestowed for work that demonstrates a high level of design quality worthy of recognition. Two projects recognized.
• Citation – bestowed for work that demonstrates a level of design quality worthy of mention. Two projects recognized.

All projects submitted for this program will be highlighted on the “Featured Projects” page of WMAIA’s website for the next two years and promoted through their social media channels. WMAIA promotes excellence in architecture through professional development, community outreach, and the celebration of architecture in the region. They want to engage the public in an ongoing, meaningful dialogue about architecture and the built environment. ArchitectureEL, Inc. is honored to receive this award and thank WMAIA and the judges for their representation and the opportunity to present their work. They are proud to work in Western Massachusetts and look forward to continuing to provide quality service and design for their clients.
